Food+City Challenge Prize

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE PRIZE

The Food+City Challenge Prize is an international competition among business startups encouraging innovation in the urban food system. In 2018 the Prize will be part of the SXSW programming for the first time. Finalists compete for cash prizes and an incredible package of business startup products and services. We encourage innovators, from across the globe, to create businesses and discover technologies that will improve how we feed cities around the world. Finalists work with their mentors for 12 weeks to prepare for Showcase Day presentations.

HOW IT WORKS

We choose finalists from the entries submitted between September 18, 2017, and November 18, 2017. Our esteemed advisors pair the finalists with qualified mentors until Showcase Day at SXSW in March. On Showcase Day, the finalists will pitch and demonstrate their startup businesses before a panel of judges and attendees.

Who Should Apply

Entries must include a process, product, service or technology that solves a problem within the “to” of Farm to Table.  For example, some of the business ideas that interest us include:

  • Food distribution technology that enables food to travel in a safer, more efficient way
  • Data systems or products that increase visibility throughout the supply chain
  • Systems that decreases waste by getting more food into and through the supply chain
  • Packaging materials that extend shelf life or reduce waste
  • Energy-saving tools that lower carbon footprint
  • Services that optimize resources within the last mile
