Food+City Startup Challenge
Part mentorship program and part startup competition, the Food+City Startup Challenge was an innovation program for those transforming food systems around the globe. The Food Challenge Prize, which celebrated 5 years at SXSW 2019, is being put on pause for the foreseeable future.
We had a great run, and will continue supporting our startup alumni by sharing updates on their successes. Food + City has published original content in print and online, supported over 75 food startups globally, and provided over $250,000 in funding.
We sense that our initial mission has been accomplished. The food infrastructure landscape since our founding in 2011 has drastically changed. At this point, food-tech accelerators abound and both consumers and companies are eager to tackle problems in the food system.
We couldn’t have done any of this important work without the partnership of many, many people. Thank you to our Tribe, our Partners + Sponsors, and of course, our Startup Alumni. Feel free to check out the recap of our 2019 Challenge, or past challenges below.
Moving forward, Food+City will search for the nuanced balance between our humanity and our ability to use technology to solve problems by sharing stories about both in our developing future food system.
